Replacing a Nissan Key Fob Battery

Your Nissan key fob is one of the most convenient features of your vehicle, giving you quick access to your car with the push of a button. But when the battery runs low, you may notice sluggish response times or that the fob stops working altogether. Fortunately, replacing the battery is simple and can be done in minutes at home. Here’s how.

What You’ll Need

• A new CR2025 or CR2032 battery (check your owner’s manual for the exact type)

• A small flathead screwdriver or a coin

• Your Nissan key fob

Step 1: Take Out the Hidden Key

Turn your key fob over and find the small release button on the back. Slide it to remove the hidden mechanical key. This will also expose the seam where the fob opens.

Step 2: Open the Fob Case

Insert a flathead screwdriver or coin into the seam of the fob and gently twist to separate the two halves. Work slowly and carefully to avoid scratching or damaging the case.

Step 3: Remove the Old Battery

Once the fob is open, you’ll see the circular battery inside. Pay attention to how it’s positioned, with the positive (+) side usually facing upward. Carefully pry it out with your tool.

Step 4: Install the New Battery

Place the new CR2025 or CR2032 battery into the slot in the same orientation as the old one. Ensure it sits flat and secure in the compartment.

Step 5: Reassemble the Fob

Snap the two halves of the key fob case back together until they fit tightly. Then reinsert the hidden key into its slot.

Step 6: Test the Key Fob

Stand near your vehicle and press the lock or unlock button. If the battery was installed correctly, your fob should respond instantly.

When to Replace Your Nissan Key Fob Battery

Most Nissan key fob batteries last around 2–3 years. Signs it’s time for a replacement include:

• Reduced signal range

• Needing to press buttons multiple times

• The fob not working at all
